Challenges to Get Through IIT Force Students to Commit Suicide at Kota

Every year almost 1, 50,000 students enrol themselves in different caching institutes of Kota. These institutes have won a reputation for making students crack the IIT entrance,

But now it is becoming deadly. In the past five years 57 students have committed suicide. It is the stress that they are facing. In an effort to excel the students break down and commit suicide. All over Kota, the students are clear: either they have to excel or they are left behind. For them an entry into IIT or other prestigious engineering and medical colleges is mark of worth otherwise they are seem to be of no value.

The coaching institutes in Kota are believed to be a gateway to IIT. Those who can pay fees get admission into them. But the stiff scrutinising measures into different batches on the basis of their performance is nothing but brutal. Those who find themselves unable to come at par live in a perpetual terror of these internal assessments and feel of a sense of worthlessness.

It is the high expectations of parents who have invested so much on their children

These coaching institutes transform the students into machines. The student’s breakdown and they sometimes have to be send to rehabilitation centres.

SC Comes Down Heavily on AICTE

The Supreme Court of India has come down heavily on the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for delaying the approval to technical institutes thereby causing delay in the academic session. It has also warned the technical institutes of dire consequences for failing to abide by the timeline fixed by the court.

According to the timeline fixed by the court, AICTE was supposed to decide on approving 621 technical institutes of Uttar Pradesh by April 10, 2016, but it could not comply with that and passed the order on approval only on May 15, 2016.

The apex court has taken a strong stance against the council for not complying with its order and playing with the careers of students by delaying the process of approval. It has directed the council to file a response within seven days for contempt of court.

The Supreme Court in 2012 had fixed a time schedule for granting approval and affiliation to technical education institutes. In this manner the court wanted to ensure against delay in the academic session. The court also came up with a fixed schedule for holding entrance tests and admission process. It had fixed up July 31 for completion of admission process and August 1 for commencement of new academic session.

Prospects of Creating 10.5 Lakh Jobs in The IT Sector by 2020

A report from the Manufacturer’s Association for Information Technology (MAIT) suggests

that by 2020, India can produce up to 10.5 lakh jobs in IT sector.

It is believed that an effective structure of IT hardware in the country will be helpful in creating better job prospects in the IT sector.

The study by MAIT says that the average cost of IT products manufactured in India is almost 15.9% higher than those imported from other countries. This problem can be resolved if the government of the country adopts similar strategies for mobile services in India.

According to the dignitaries the estimated annual demand for PC’s by 2020 is 21 million; this demand can be met by domestic production. This way the country will be able hold 30 per cent of the global market.

Strategies to strengthen domestic IT sector

  • Reduce the excise duty on notebook PC’s and Desktop PC’s by the 2 per cent.

This step should be taken without any facility for input taxes and exemption from excise duty for other parts and sub-assemblies

These changes are expected to provide better opportunities and help serve a larger share of market.
