Reintroduction of CBSE Class 10th Board, Discussion to be held on 25th October

Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE) has made class 10th board examination optional. Now it is planning to reintroduce them from 2018, Said HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar. In this matter, discussion will be held today, 25th October 2016, between HRD Minister, Prakash Javadekar, Education Ministers of State and Central Ministers.

CBSE has removed the class 10th board examination in 2010 and it was replaced with the current continuous and comprehensive evaluation + that provides for tests and grading through the year as a means to reduce pressure on students. However, after this, students starting taking their grade 9th studies for granted and as a result mass failure of students in grade 9th has been noticed. After this, reintroduction of exams, students will start taking their studies seriously and their attitude will change in positive way towards studies.

Teachers are giving positive reviews for this decision. As per them, it will help children to get prepared for class 12th board. After removing the class 10th board, students were scared to appear in class 12th board which almost lead them to their nervous breakdown. This would be the best gift that the Education ministry can give us in New Year.

Along with this, HRD Minister, Javadekar will also announce “No- detention” policy wherein students will be automatically promoted till class 5th. States will then devise their options till class 8th. The student, who fails in examination, will be given a re-test opportunity.

CBSEto Do Away With Class 12 Re-Evaluation of Answer Scripts

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to discontinue the revaluation practice of board exam paper.

This decision shall be regulated from the next academic session, 2017.

Following are some reasons for this change in system:

  • According to CBSE Senior officials, since 2014, re-evaluation of answer sheets was done in around 10 subjects for class 12 examinations.
  • They maintained that some system will be there to address genuine cases
  • Actual number of students who applied for re-evaluation was only around 1.8 per cent
  • Not only this, officials said the number of beneficiaries was even less

These are the factors that have lead to CBSE scrapping the system of re-evaluation.

The board has announced that:

  • They are planning to hold online examinations for the next Central Teachers Eligibility Test (CTET)
  • Board is going to launch digital initiatives ensuring that school exam certificates of applicants to various courses can be checked by institutions online
  • Students will be able to get digital copies of their certificates soon.
  • Records of various schools are also being digitized.
  • Soon the process of mapping the educational audio-visual content will  be available online.

Apart from that, the CBSE officials declared that review of the optional board exams for Class 10 has begun along with the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) followed in affiliated schools.

CBSE Begins Review Of CCE And Optional Board Exam For Class X

The CBSE has begun a review of the optional board exams for Class X and the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) followed in affiliated schools.

CBSE chairman R K Chaturvedi has informed  that the board is  consulting stakeholders on the issue. A majority say that a dual system for the Class X exams is confusing. The review has taken place after many schools and state governments voiced opinion in favour of making the exam compulsory again.

A Committee had been set up to recommend changes in examination bylaws and affiliation rules.

As per the information provided by the chairman, the idea is to give more teeth for punitive action against affiliation violations and also improve the examination system.
CBSE has devised a system for which the schools have to make some mandatory disclosures. Unless the board has all the data, it can’t improve its planning. The bylaws express fees should be commensurate with the facilities offered by schools. The schools will also have to be open about such data on their websites.
As informed by him, a student will now be able to download his or her certificate from a digital locker. any institution registered with CBSE will be able to get certificates submitted to it authenticated online.

PPSC wants CSAT to be only Qualifying Exam for Civil Services: Appeals State Government

The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) has requested the state government to makr CSAT as the only qualifying examination for Punjab Civil Services Examination. If the government approves the same, the Punjab State Civil Services Rules, 2009 will be required to be amended and the candidates will then be required to score 33 per cent percent marks in prelims.

Unlimited Attempts for the Candidates

The commission has also recommended unlimited attempts for the candidates but wants upper age limit reduced from 37 to 35.
