A resolution has been passed by the Maharashtra state government to conduct only one Common Entrance Test MHT-CET, where students’ scores will be considered for both engineering and medical admission from next session in 2016-2017. State government will finally issue the orders for MHT-CET on August 29, 2016. Class 12 marks will not be given weightage as was done in the last two years. The pattern that the CET will follow would be the same as was followed till 2012. Physics and Chemistry will be common subjects for all students appearing for CET, while marks of Biology will be considered for admissions to health science course and those of Mathematics will be considered for engineering aspirants.
A single Common Entrance Test (CET) for admissions to the state’s private and private colleges is believed to curtail the alleged malpractices that are largely associated with private colleges.
From 2016 onwards state’s Common Entrance Test cell will conduct a single entrance test for admission to medical and engineering courses in private and government colleges. Earlier the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) and Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) used to conduct these entrance tests.
An IAS officer with the assistance of two directorates will head the cell. The cell will conduct the common test to streamline process and reduce malpractices during admissions to private colleges.
