Students seeking admissions to the IITs are going to be in for a good surprise. The Indian Institute of Technology has come up with making the basic criterion for admission easier and clearer by declaring that the cut-off for students who clear the IIT-JEE (Advanced) will be 75% in the class 12 board examinations or a top 20 percentile, whichever is lower.

Till now, the students had to secure an undisclosed target to be within the top 20 percentile to be eligible for the admission. The IIT council announced the decision at its 48th meeting in Chennai. The council further deliberated that candidates in the general, OBC-NCL (non-creamy layer) categories should score 75% in the class XII exam and SC/STs and persons with disability should score 70%.
