RRB-NON-TECH

The Railway Recruitment Board has received over 98 lakh applications this year for various RRB Non-Technical Posts. As per the official notification released by RRB, there are 18252 vacancies for 9 Non-Technical Posts in the Indian Railways this year. For almost every Railway RRB Non-Technical Post, the candidates are required to attempt a written examination.
Despite the exam being highly preferred, many aspirants are not aware about the various job prospects offered by RRB. Various posts under RRB and their job responsibilities are;

1) ASM (Assistant Station Master)
Job responsibilities: ASM will be the in charge of running of trains at a station. He operates the signals, ensures that everything goes as per the rules laid out. He will be working in shifts. Big stations may have more than one ASM.
Career Growth: ASM Assistant Station Master gets promoted to Station Master, then to Station Supt, further to Assistant Operations Manager and finally to Divisional Operations Manager.

 

2) Commercial Clerk:

Job responsibilities: Commercial Clerk works either in Ticket Booking Offices or in Goods Shed. Those who work in ticket booking offices are called booking clerks and those who work in goods sheds are called Goods clerk. The responsibility of Booking Clerk is to issue tickets to Passengers whereas a Goods clerk is supposed to book and supervise loading of Luggage and parcels. They also maintain concerned registers.

In small stations, Booking Clerk is also holds the responsibility of Computerized Passenger Reservation. Goods Clerk‘s job profile is to work in Goods dealing stations or yards. He books freight traffic, coordinates about allotment of wagon, loading/unloading etc.

Career growth: Commercial Clerks (CC) are first promoted to Sr. Commercial Clerks (Sr. CC), then Chief Commercial Clerks (CCC) and finally to Dy. Station Manager(C)

 

3) Goods Guard:

Job responsibilities: Guard holds the charge of running a train and Goods Guard in charge of running goods train. His job responsibility is to get the VG (vehicle guidance).VG is a written document which contains the description like number of wagons, load tonnage of individual wagons, tare weight. He gets this VG from Station master. He is also responsible for checking the safety issues for the smooth functioning of the train eg. Checking brake continuity, doors of the wagon. He signs BPC (Brake Power certificate).He deals with LP/ALP troubles along with preparing reports like Combined Train reports, Late arrival reports etc.

 

Salary and other perks:

Pay Scale (5200-20200) with initial Basic – 8560 and Grade Pay 2800,
other perks as admissible for central Govt. employees (DA, TA, HRA)

 

Career growth :

Passenger Guard is promoted to Express Guard. In another path a Passenger Guard is promoted to Section Controller and then further to Chief Controller.
Guards also have the option of writing LDCE exams for Group B Gazetted post of Assistant Operations Manager (AOM).

 

4) Apprentice (CA & TA):
Job responsibilities: Traffic Apprentices are multi skilled supervisors in the Operations section of Transportation branch.
Most of the posts like controllers, Station Masters, Yard Masters and Traffic Inspectors are initially recruited as Traffic Apprentices with the grade pay of 4200. They are given 2 years of training in different categories of working of Traffic.
After 2 years of training, they are posted either as Station Master or Section Controller. Their further promotion is in the cadre to which they are posted.

 

Career Growth :
They are first promoted as Station Master / Section Controller, then to Station Supt. /Chief Controller, further promotions to managerial level demand for departmental exams, and later get promoted to Assistant Operations Manager and then to Divisional Operations Manager.

 

Salary :
Salary perks include pay scale of 9300- 34800, grade pay of 4200, initial pay is 9300 and total pay makes to 13500. They are also benefitted with DA , transport allowance and house rent allowance.

 

5) Asst Accountant:

Job responsibilities: After passing RRB Non-Technical Examination for the post of JAA, candidate is initially recruited as Junior Accounts Assistant. After serving for training period, he is allocated a zone. JAA works in Department of Finance and Accounts.
There are certain tasks that are done by the JAA regularly. He is required to clear Bills, analyze Railway Budget, Purchase order process and verify stock. Apart from that, JAAA is required to compile overall budgets in consultation with other departments and monitors control procedures of budget.

Career Growth: Accounts Assistant gets promoted to Junior Accounts Officers, then to Senior Accounts Officers, further to Deputy Chief Account Officers, then Additional Financial Adviser, Chief Accounts Officer and finally to Chief Account Officers/ Financial Adviser.

6) Enquiry cum Reservation Clerk (ECRC).
Job responsibilities of ECRC: Job responsibilities of ECRC can broadly be categorized in three branches. i) Query Handling , ii) Passenger Request Processing and ,iii) Handling Ticket Counter.
Salary:
Pay Scale is Rs 5,200 – 20,200/-, Grade Pay is Rs. 2,800/-, Initial Pay is Rs. 8,500/- and Total Pay is Rs. 11,360/-.Apart for that added perks are Dearness Allowance (DA), Transport Allowance (TA) and House Rent Allowance (HRA).

Career Growth:
Growth in this follows the following trend. First the person is appointed as (ECRC) Grade II, then promoted to Enquiry/ Reservation Clerk (ECRC) Grade I, after that Reservation Supervisor, followed by Assistant Commercial Manager, and finally as Divisional Commercial Manager
