Delhi University established a seven-member committee to bring changes in the university’s examination system with an intention to implement the ‘choice- based credit scheme’. The University Grants Commission (UGC) directed all universities to introduce the plan to permit students ‘seamless mobility’ diagonally higher education institutions and make a standardized grading system.

The committee will be headed by the Principal of Maharaja Agrasen College Sunil Sodhi. Dutt said that the committee will draft a discussion paper with regard to main issues such as assessment systems, revision required in the curriculum, ensuring of credit equivalence and examination system.  There will also be discussion about guidelines for credit transfer, credits for each subject or paper, accountability of evaluators, process of setting question papers and the grading pattern.

The panel will submit its report in the next month upon which the varsity’s Executive Council and Academic Council will decide the final course of action. According to the Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani, the credit-based choice system will be functional in the next academic session.

The system is aimed at providing ‘cafeteria’ type access to students and it is possible to transfer the credits earned by the students.  This system will benefit all those students who are looking for migration from one institution to another.
