In a little while, Samyukta Maharashtra movement in SSC textbooks

School education Minister Vinod Tawde announced that the Samyukta Maharashtra movement will be included in the state Council’s history textbook for class X. Speaking at a function in Dadar, he said that he would speak to officials from other Central boards-CBSE and ICSE to include the movement in their curriculum also. Uddhav Thackeray, who was also present at the event, demanded that Marathwada Mukti Sangram should also be included in the curriculum.

The principal said that it is a good idea to include Maharashtra history in the SSC curriculum. “But it is not possible to include in the textbooks for the Central Board. New additions in the textbooks must be relevant to the students too. But the government can make it mandatory to read without including it in the curriculum.”

The Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti began the movement in 1956 for the creation of a separate Marathi-speaking state. On May 1, 1960, the state of Bombay was divided into Maharashtra and Gujarat.
