UK-based global development organisation Sightsavers has kicked off Vidyajyoti School Eye Health Programme in Cuttack district and the event was held at Kendriya Vidyalaya No-1, Cuttack. This programme is being launched in partnership with Rotary Club of Cuttack Eye Hospital and Research Institute, Cuttack with giving higher importance of quality eye health among school going children.

Under this programme, free of cost health services will be given to approximately 3.50 lakh school-going students in 2,500 Government schools in Cuttack district. The programme will be implemented by six enthusiastic refraction teams comprising ophthalmologists, health educators, vision technicians and optometrists.

Apart from providing free eye care services to the school-going students, school management committee members, local health staff and school teachers will also be trained on a number of aspects of preventive, promotive and screening aspects of eye care.

This five- year programme will work closely with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Rashtriya Bal Swaasthya Karyakaram and National Programme for the Control of Blindness and is aimed at creating a healthy school health system in the display district Cuttack and in the State.
