SUPREME COURT PERMITS STUDENTS ABOVE 25 YEARS TO APPEAR FOR NEET 2019

The Supreme Court has permitted those above 25 years of age to appear for NEET 2019. But it has also clarified that this would be dependent on the outcome of the case on the validity of the decision of the government to fix an age limit. The deadline to fill the form will also get an extension.

A bench of Justices in an interim order has allowed all those who were hit by age restriction to take up the examination and has also directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) that the deadline for filling the form should also be extended by one week to enable the students to apply as the last date for filling the form was December 1, 2018.

Last year the CBSE had fixed up the upper age limit for General Category to be 25 years and 30 years for the reserved category. This decision was challenged by the students in the High Court. The HC upheld the decision of the CBSE but added a clause that barred students from open schools or those studying private schools to appear for the NEET exam. This decision was challenged by the students calling it arbitrary and restrictive in nature and asked for its dismissal.
