The Common Admission test (CAT) is one of the national level management entrance examinations. The exam is schedules to be held on 4th December, 2016. This exam will be conducted every year by IIMs as a prerequisite for the admissions to various management programmes in IIMs.
Throughout the year, this exam has been going through many major changes in exam pattern, marking schemes, syllabus etc. Now, two major changes have been incorporated in the registration form with the addition of a designated test centre i.e. Noida.
Registrations for CAT examination are going on. The candidates who haven’t enrolled yet will enrol themselves by September 22, 2016. In order to appear for the exam, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised institute/ university.
Other than this, one of the designated test centres has been added in the list i.e Noida. It was previously removed as a test centre in the year 2014 and Greater Noida – a suburb of Noida was included in the list. This move of incorporation of Greater Noida as Test centre caused lots of problems for the candidates from Delhi- NCR, who was taking Noida as a test Centre.
The selection of candidates will be done on the basis of Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and after this, selected candidates will be called for personal interviews (PI) round.
The 3 IIMs that started with PGP in 2015 did participate in the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) round of Common Admission Process (CAP) 2016 coordinated by IIM Kashipur for 9 IIMs. These 3 IIMs are expected to finalise their admissions without convening the personal interviews and Written Ability tests and are expected to reduce the qualifying overall And sectional CAT 2015 percentile scores for PGP 2016-18 batch.
IIMs at IIM Nagpur, IIM Sirmaur, and IIM Visakhapatnam did not become a part of the CAP 2016 and have proposed to make final admission offers directly.
IIM Nagpur has proposed to finalize its selection without GD-PI round but would give weight-age to academic performance and work experience before generating final admission offer to 60 candidates. IIM Nagpur has made it clear that the admission process at IIM Nagpur will take into account the candidate’s Past Academic Performance (PAP), Work Experience (WE) and Performance in CAT.
IIM Nagpur will give 50% weightage to CAT 2015 score, 305 weightage to PAST Academic Performance (PAP). All those aspirants who have scored above 905 in class X, XII and above 705 in graduation will be awarded full weightage of 10 points for academic standard. It will give 20% weightage to work experience.
IIM Sirmaur has also put its admission offer on hold. It plans to give admission to those candidates who have scored 80 percentile in CAT 2015. It has reduced the percentile from 96.3 to 80. Apart from overall percentile sectional percentile has also been reduced by 5 points in each section from 80 to 75.
IIM Visakhapatnam also did not participate in the CAP 2016; it has not even announced its admission policy for PGP 2016-18. It might conduct its own Personal Interview.
