Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) decided to organize a state-wide competition for Gujarati speaking students which will be a trial to Science and Math Olympiads. This competition is aimed at creating awareness about the language in new generation and to attract children to the subject to increase their educational performance in school examinations.
Out of 9 lakh students that participated in the state board examinations last year, 1.67 lakh students failed in the subject and that is why Olympiad is aimed at generating their interest back in the language.
The Chairman of the GSHSEB, R R Varsani said this plan is aimed at encouraging students to take interest in literature and take part in competition. This competition will be held in most of the schools of the state. This decision was taken after an assembly of the education commission of the board.
The meeting of the board took decision about the model of the examinations in board exam also. Currently, 50% multiple-choice questions and 50% descriptive questions are asked to the students in the paper. This plan is to change the model for the 2015 exams and make it more effective for students.
