3 IIMs expected to opt for different admission criteria

The 3 IIMs that started with PGP in 2015 did participate in the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) round of Common Admission Process (CAP) 2016 coordinated by IIM Kashipur for 9 IIMs. These 3 IIMs are expected to finalise their admissions without convening the personal interviews and Written Ability tests and are expected to reduce the qualifying overall And sectional CAT 2015 percentile scores for PGP 2016-18 batch.

IIMs at IIM Nagpur, IIM Sirmaur, and IIM Visakhapatnam did not become a part of the CAP 2016 and have proposed to make final admission offers directly.

IIM Nagpur has proposed to finalize its selection without GD-PI round but would give weight-age to academic performance and work experience before generating final admission offer to 60 candidates. IIM Nagpur has made it clear that the admission process at IIM Nagpur will take into account the candidate’s Past Academic Performance (PAP), Work Experience (WE) and Performance in CAT.

IIM Nagpur will give 50% weightage to CAT 2015 score, 305 weightage to PAST Academic Performance (PAP). All those aspirants who have scored above 905 in class X, XII and above 705 in graduation will be awarded full weightage of 10 points for academic standard.It will give 20% weightage to work experience.

IIM Sirmaur has also put its admission offer on hold. It plans to give admission to those candidates who have scored 80 percentile in CAT 2015. It has reduced the percentile from 96.3 to 80. Apart from overall percentile sectional percentile has also been reduced by 5 points in each section from 80 to 75.

IIM Visakhapatnam also did not participate in the CAP 2016; it has not even announced its admission policy for PGP 2016-18. It might conduct its own Personal Interview.

This news finally brings cheer to IIM aspirants. The union minister for Human resource, SmritiIrani, approved setting up of sex new Indian institute of management (IIMs) in the country, which will start their operations from this academic year. New IIMs would be start in Amritsar-Punjab, Nagpur-Maharashtra, Visakhapatnam-Andhra Pradesh, Sirmaur- Himachal Pradesh, Sambalpur-Odisha and Bodh Gaya-Bihar.

These new IIMs will be mentored by the IIMs which are already establish. IIM Amritsar will be mentored by IIM Kozhikode, IIM Bodhgaya will be mentored by IIM Calcutta, IIM Nagpur will be mentored by IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Sambalpur will be mentored by IIM Indore, IIM Sirmaur will be mentored by IIM Lucknow and IIM Visakhapatnam will be mentored by IIM Banglore.

With the setting up of these New IIMs, it is expected that the annual intake of students would reach to the level of 560 students by the end of seven years. Each of the new IIMs will take 140 students for their post-graduation progamme. Admission in the IIM will be on the basis of common admission test (CAT). Looking at the economic growth of the country, the institute would train young graduate management responsibilities.

Heading towards students view

According to students, number adding IITs would be helpful, but they suggest increase the quality education for engineering course more rather than introducing new IITs. According to them, IITs and IIMs are premier institutes and increasing seats in the present institute would be better rather than setting up new institutes.

Indian Institute of Management (IIM) moved the date of the exam for integrated programme in management exam 2015 (IPMAT 2015). At first, the exam was scheduled for may 14, but now the exam date was revised to May 15.

IIM conducts IPMAT for the admission of candidates to its five-year integrated programme in management (IPM).

Paper pattern:

Total questions: 100

The question paper will be made up of two parts:

Quantitative ability: this section will have 60 per cent of the weightage-

Profit Loss

Geometry

Data Interpretation

Simple Equations

Numbers

Averages

Mixtures and Alligations

Time and Distance

Time and Work

Verbal ability: 40 per cent weightage

Vocabulary

Grammar

Sentence correction

Usage of words

Marking Pattern:

For each correct answer, candidates will be awarded 4 marks and for every wrong answer, one mark will be deducted.

Selection process:

Candidates will be selected based on their performance in IPMAT 2015. Selected candidates will have to appear in personal interview for getting selected for the job.

With Nagpur getting Indian Institute of management (IIM), there is excitement among the students of the region who seek to make a career in management.
