Pragati Scholarship started for Girls by HRD Ministry

Super 30 gets on the rolls of Tokyo University: 2nd student gets scholarship

 

The government has started the ‘Pragati Scholarship’ programme from the year 2014-15 to sustain and persuade girl child to pursue technical education in future. The Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani announced this while replying to the Lok Sabha question and disclosed its most important features to the public.

Around 4000 scholarships will be prearranged to girls every year under this programme. All those families, whose income is less than Rs. 6 lakhs per annum, can apply for scholarship for one girl in their family. Applicants will have to pass a qualifying examination and they will be selected as per their merit.  All those candidates who take admission in 1st year of Degree or diploma programme in any AICTE approved institute during the academic year 2014-15 will be eligible for the scholarships. Qualified students will get an amount of Rs. 30,000 or the real cost of the course.

The government will not change the eligibility criteria and other conditions for the Pragati Scholarship programme for the time being.  The HRD minister also said large print books are provided to the visually handicapped and blind children who took admission to primary and upper primary schools under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Braille.
