Tihar Jail Authorities took decision to make higher education compulsory for teenager prisoners in Tihar Jail. Currently, studies are optional for culprits and all those who wish for studies, are offered material and admitted in correspondence courses. As per authorities, education will be mandatory for culprits aged 18 to 21 years.
The main objective behind Tihar Jails move is to change its teenager prisoners into ordinary members of society by supplying them education, respect for the law and useful skills. It helps prisoners to improve their life. Providing higher education can be a big step towards this area. As per a report, around 65% prisoners did not get Class X education.
DG (Prisons) Alok Kumar Verma said that the excellent way to make prisoners a good person to make them get a degree and do something useful and productive. All those prisoners who are not interested in studies, they will essentially have to get at least matriculate-level education.
