About UPSC Prelims Exam and Book Recommendation By IAS Toppers
UPSC Prelims refers to the preliminary examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. In total, the UPSC examination consists of three stages. Prelims is the first stage of the civil services exam. It is a screening test to select candidates for the UPSC Mains examination. It mainly comprises of two objective-type question papers: Paper 1 called General Studies (GS) and Paper 2 called Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). Each paper is carried out for a duration of 2 hour each. Both the question papers of Prelims exam are set in both English and Hindi. For incorrect answers, there is a negative marking of 0.33 (1/3) mark each. Only the candidates who qualify for the UPSC Prelims exam are eligible to appear for the UPSC Mains exam.
