About UGC-NET

UGC NET also known as NTA-UGC-NET is an examination which determines eligibility for the post of assistant professor or Junior Research fellowship award in Indian Universities and Colleges. Initially the University Grants Commission had to conduct the examination, but on behalf of them the National Testing Agency conducts it every year. This exam is conducted every year to recruit the candidates only for the post of Assistant Professor or both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor across Indian universities and colleges.

The duration of the UGC NET exam is 3 hours (180 minutes). It is divided into 2 papers, paper 1 and paper 2. Both the papers are conducted in the online mode. The paper 1 is open/common for all candidates, while paper 2 is of subject specific questions. The total number of questions in paper 1 and paper 2 are 50 and 100 respectively. The total weightage of paper 1 is 100 marks and paper 2 is 200 marks. In both paper 1 and paper 2, on each correct question you are awarded with 2 marks and for the wrong answer no marks are deducted. The UGC NET exam is conducted in both the languages, i.e., English and Hindi.
